Since 2007 Peter Scudamore-Smith MW has been regularly visiting the elite tenutas and cantinas (estates and wineries) within Italy, particularly Barbaresco, Barolo, Chianti, Montalcino, Maremma, Etna, Vittoria, Marsala, as well as Soave, Umbria, Emilia-Romagna and Veneto. He now commands a wide tasting specialisation for the wines of the twenty Italian regions. He is a participant in the Institute of Masters of Wine May 2012 study tour of Sicily hosted by Vini di Sicilia. Peter's wife Denise is learning the Italian language and in the past few years has made regular annual visits to language schools in Italy to immerse herself in the language and indulge her love of the culture and the cuisine.

More recently, Peter and Denise traversed the increasingly-popular, internationally-regarded regions on a grander scale, seeking entry to the tenutas which do not normally admit nor advertise access by foreign wine guests. They have:
• eaten in the trattorias, osterias and ristoranti which constitute the food cultures of these regions
• sought out the local festivals, food specialties, shopping precincts, galleries, duomos (churches), wine identities and items of special interest
• shopped in the piazza markets
• driven the back roads and the fast roads, found restaurants down dirt tracks
• located and stayed in country residences, fine terracotta-roofed apartments and the best locally owned medieval hotels.

Guests of Peter and Denise receive the best personalised attention, tasting expertise and menu explanations as numbers are limited to 12 people.
